Ships of the Monarch class and Venture class Galaxy sub-types were also upgraded to dreadnought configuration. One of the first ships upgraded to this configuration was the USS Devron.Īs the "default" ship of this type, the design is sometimes unofficially referred to as Devron class. In response to the renewed hostilities between the Federation and the Klingon Empire, these redesigned Galaxy class dreadnoughts were equipped with a cloaking device and a spinal lance phaser. The upgrade included the addition of a third warp nacelle. The Galaxy class underwent a refit at the turn of the 25th century, following the collapse of the Khitomer Accords in 2399. After the creation of the Xena in the early 2370s, two more starships were built for this class. It eventually became a vessel to assist other vessels in after-battle situations. The vessel was launched as the Xena, with increased medical facilities to service injured people. However, it enabled the ship to maintain an even more stable warp shell that could withstand more natural spatial phenomena. A third nacelle was one of the significant differences but didn't make the ship go past warp 9. Though Starfleet attempted to jump the gun and create a version of the Galaxy class like the one in the future, they inevitably were unsuccessful in making it that much more advanced. Its specs were largely based on Jean-Luc Picard's description of a future version of the USS Enterprise-D he had once encountered. The W13 Galaxy class was created in the form of the USS Xena in the early 2370s. Galaxy III vessels used data storage networks featuring bio-neural gel packs and subprocessor nodes however, the systems could be easily downgraded to isolinear circuitry when needed. These ships were very powerful, highly advanced dreadnought types, capable of supporting a crew complement of 1,200. The Galaxy III class was brought into service in 2377, the first vessel being the USS Excelsior. The Entente class entered service in 2371. The project was mothballed, as the ships were too expensive to produce, and there was only one known abandoned starbase that housed a number of these prototypes. In the late 24th century of a timeline closely resembling the mirror universe, Galaxy dreadnoughts were in the process of being produced to fend off the formidable Klingon Negh'Var class.
